YNGWIE MALMSTEEN: German Dates Cancelled!
April 7, 2003The final two German dates on YNGWIE MALMSTEEN's current European tour were apparently cancelled by the promoter without the Swedish guitarist's knowledge.
The following is a statement on the matter as it appears on Yngwie's official web site, www.yngwie.org:
"Imagine Yngwie's surprise when he and the band returned to Germany after a great show in London, only to discover that both remaining shows in Germany were cancelled! According to venue owners for both the Hamburg and Berlin shows, Yngwie's concerts were cancelled by the promoter, unknown to Yngwie or his management. Reasons for the cancellations have not been given by the promoter, but an investigation is ongoing at this time. (Yes, Yngwie cut his thumb in the London show, but it is healed and he is fine, so that has nothing to do with the cancellations).
"I [the webmaster] spoke to Yngwie by phone from Hamburg just a few minutes ago (before posting this news story),and he wants to make sure that all the disappointed fans in Germany understand that these sudden cancellations were NOT his decision. Yngwie and the band are ready to play the shows, but without a venue, obviously, the shows cannot go on. Angry and frustrated, Yngwie and the band have no choice but to head on to Denmark for the next show (with a different promoter!).
"Concert touring is a risky business no matter how well planned at the start, and one never knows what obstacles can suddenly show up along the road. Yngwie sends his profound apologies to all the fans who had planned to see the band play in Berlin and Hamburg — he is as upset about the cancellations as you are!"
